About Sumi Dye:
Kishu Binchotan charcoal is called white charcoal because it is carbonised at high temperatures. When dyed with white charcoal, the fabric is not simply grey, but a luminous silver colour. Darker colours are created by mixing white charcoal and pigment. The uneven colour is also created by a dyeing technique in which the fabric is rubbed in a large washing machine to gently and slowly give it a shaded appearance.
